Natural Cancer Treatments

Natural Cancer Treatments
By Sandy Wolle

Most of us probably don't really think about cancer too much until it touches our lives in some way. Maybe you suddenly learn that a family member, friend, neighbor, or co-worker has been diagnosed with cancer and then it really hits you as to how devastating a blow this news can be. Perhaps you are the one diagnosed. Whatever the case, you are now more aware of cancer and will be paying more attention to it as the person dealing with it begins a treatment plan for his or her particular cancer.

My first up close and personal dealings with cancer were when my brother was diagnosed several years ago. At first, the doctors felt very confident that his chances were very good as it was just a small spot on his lower spine at the L5. He started radiation and chemotherapy immediately. He was 38 years old and in great shape so we figured it would all work out just fine. Well, to make a long story short, the cancer was far more aggressive than originally thought and the treatments were not helping towards the end and he lost his battle. Cancer robbed our family of such a wonderful human being. I am so glad, though, that we were the family who had the honor of knowing him, loving him, and being loved by him in return during his time on earth. For that, we were very blessed.

I love to hear of those who beat their cancer and there are many such stories out there. My sister-in-law is included in that group after she was diagnosed with a form of Hodgkin's disease, underwent the traditional chemotherapy, and went into remission! She continues to do well and for that we are grateful.

Needless to say, cancer is a word that I pay attention to. Whenever I see an article on it, I read it. Most recently, I had a little scare with my latest mammogram. Usually, after I have my yearly mammogram, I get a little postcard in the mail letting me know that all is well. This time that postcard didn't come. I thought it must have been lost in the mail. No, that wasn't it. I didn't get the postcard, but got a letter instead stating "we found something" on your mammogram and further testing is required. Talk about heart-stopping news. It doesn't take much for me to panic. I called the doctor immediately to schedule the other test and it seemed like an eternity until I went for that and then had to wait for those results. I had so many emotions going through me during that time waiting time. I said a lot of prayers, too. I was lucky in that my test results were fine and I was OK. It sure does make you think about what you'll do if the news isn't good.

I got to thinking about what else might be available to people for treating their cancer besides the chemotherapy or radiation. What if a person didn't want to do the chemotherapy because they were afraid of suffering the side effects from it? What if chemotherapy or radiation wasn't working for someone and they wanted to try something natural? What about others who claim they tried natural alternatives for their treatment and survived? Are our bodies designed to help heal themselves if the right nutrients are provided for whatever ailment we are trying to cure...including cancer?

There is a lot of good information regarding natural cures for cancer. I find it very interesting reading and so I think if I'm ever dealt the cancer card that I would, first and foremost, listen to what my doctor had to say and discuss treatment plans. I would certainly bring up natural cures in case that would be at all possible for me. I would print out anything I could find on that subject and take it with me to discuss these options with him to see if a non-toxic approach could work. I keep thinking that our bodies are designed to heal themselves and, if so, I'd rather take that approach first. Wouldn't you?

All we can do is try to stay healthy and take good care of ourselves. Have those important screenings you should have...they may not be too pleasant, but they could save your life!
